Wal-Mart SuperCenter--Taylor
Taylor, Michigan
This project involves expanding the existing 141,000 sq. ft. Wal-Mart to a 217,000 sq. ft. Wal-Mart SuperCenter. The expansion includes all new tenant spaces, expanded general merchandise sales area and an all new grocery sales floor. New service areas include a portrait studio, Flagstar Bank, Blimpy Subs, vision center, pharmacy, hair salon and arcade. The expansion project included renovating most of the existing spaces including tire and lube, garden center, bathrooms, back-of-house and all new flooring. Exterior work includes new parking lot and lighting, new vestibule entries, paint, EIFS and roofing. When complete, the all-new store, currently the busiest Wal-Mart in Michigan, will become one of the highest revenue producing Wal-Mart SuperCenters in the Midwest.
The MICCO project team overcame obstacles from the onset of the 11 month project. Beginning with the challenges that a brownfield construction site brings, the project foundations included the installation of nearly 400 Geopier caissons. This work, and all construction activities, became a logistical challenge given that the store remained open for business 24 hours a day and took construction through the busy holiday season.
